Local hero Olympic medal winner Louis Smith is heading home to a civic welcome this Saturday, August 18 and ESP is calling on everyone to turn out and give him an almighty cheer!
We’ll be there to capture all the action as the gymnast from Eye takes to an open top bus to show off his Bronze and Silver medals as Peterborough pays tribute to the 23 year-old’s fantastic achievements in London.
On Saturday he’ll meet the Mayor at around 1.30pm before heading off on an open top bus around the city centre at around 2pm.
The bus will travel along Vineyard Road / St John’s Street before turning onto New Road and then Northminster. The bus will then enter Broadway and proceed along Long Causeway before parking on Cathedral Square at around 2.15pm and we’re all hoping everyone will turn out and give him the welcome he deserves – so flags at the ready folks!
The Mayor will present Louis with his civic gifts and then you’ll get the chance to meet him yourself for autographs and photographs on the bus.
He’s become quite the poster boy of the Olympics so make sure you get your chance to congratulate him while you can. It’s fantastic to see this former Arthur Mellows Village College student achieve so much and put Peterborough on the map.
Louis was one of the sports stars chosen to model for NEXT who outfitted Team GB, and our lead image shows Louis sporting the exclusive special edition Olympics scarf which is on sale at NEXT in Queensgate. It costs £10 for a large one and £5 for a small one and there’s also a dfferent design for the Paralympics – proceeds go to the British Olympic Association.
We’re loving his new look and can’t wait to see these medals up close.
Look out for ESP’s coverage on the website after his visit and in the September issue of ESP Magazine.
