Two Deeping women are set to walk almost 30 miles around Rutland Water to raise funds for their friend’s young daughter battling Leukaemia.
Four year-old Nadia has been fighting the cancer since she was just 18 month’s old and needs daily trips to hospital.
Single mum Ewa needs support and her friends Sam Mulligan and Catriona Forsyth have pledged to help raise funds for transport and to arrange some fun events for Nadia.
They are walking almost 30 miles round Rutland Water and its peninsula on Saturday March 10 and will be setting off at 6.30am hopefully completing the challenge before it’s dark.
Sam told ESP – “We’re walking to raise funds for transport support to enable Ewa to take Nadia on her daily trip to hospital and also to arrange some event days for Nadia to enjoy as she has spent nearly all her life lying in one hospital bed or another.
“When she was cancer free last year she had to learn to walk again as her muscles had wasted but sadly in just 10 weeks it was back.”
Sam and Catriona are walking to raise funds and have already received support from several Deeping companies – “It’s just wonderful to see a town support local people,” says Sam.
“I would personally like to thank Jessica Jellis at Promotional Threads in Market Deeping who’s very kindly supplied, designed and printed T shirts for us for free and Qualpaint Commercial Painting Specialists, Empire Gym, Kiss and Make Up and Party With Us who have all sponsored us and come together to help a local girl.”
Local parents, Danny Coor and Jeannetta Lasala, who sadly lost their daughter Shannon Corr to cancer have generously donated £1,200 to the fund.
Sam added – “I’d like to thank them so much for the huge donation and show people that are going through this that people do care. If anyone wants to donate or even join in the walk they can join us.
“It really is keeping Ewa going just seeing something is being done and that they aren’t alone.”
