The wait is almost over Primark fans.

The new store’s development at Queensgate is set to enter the next exciting phase, as major construction work on the 60,000 square foot unit nears completion.

Following well over a year of continued works, the majority of the build has now been finished, with work due to be completed by the end of August.  As part of a phased handover, shoppers will notice a bustling hive of activity in and around the unit, as Primark’s contractors prepare for a state-of-the-art shop fit set to begin mid-August. This places the project firmly on track for its grand opening in November.

Queensgate will be one of only two shopping centres in the UK to boast both John Lewis and Primark.

As part of the £20 million investment in the Primark project there have been significant changes throughout the centre in order to accommodate the extensive range of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, as well as homeware.   Along with the impressive extension, several stores such as Argos and Superdrug were repositioned to make room for the three storey mega-store.

Sam Eastwood, centre director at Queensgate, told ESP – “Since work began back in 2011, the Primark build has been an exciting and momentous project.  In order to house such a large, flagship store, the centre has undergone major re-construction to accommodate the enormous space Primark needs for its extensive offering and back of house area.

“As a result of significant investment in the centre over the years, we have continued to attract more and more well-known national retailers such as Office shoes, Fat Face, Carluccio’s, Pandora, Superdry and Jack & Jones as well as brands such as Topshop, Leslie Davis, Jessops and Claire’s Accessories choosing to invest further in their existing stores.

“As we move nearer to the big reveal, we are thrilled that all of the hard work from everyone involved is really paying off.  Undoubtedly by bringing Primark to Queensgate, we will be giving shoppers across the region exactly what they want in terms of value retail and we are confident that the store will be a massive success when it opens in November.”
