FANCY A FREE MARKET STALL TO GET YOURSELF STARTED?

Traders are being offered the chance to save £400 by taking up a free stall at Peterborough City Market throughout August.

The opportunity is open to people who want to try out new ideas and to anyone looking to expand their current business.

The council is especially interested to hear from people wanting to trade in retro clothing, home furnishings, upcycled products, vintage records and homemade arts and crafts, and businesses that are not in direct competition with existing stallholders.

Six stallholders took up a similar offer in April and three of them stayed on permanently after the trial, these were Victoria’s Sponge House (pictured top), Here We Aren’t music merchandise and ZeroZero Pizzas.

Those who do stay will also receive a 20 per cent saving in their rent for the first month, social media support, and a free promotional video after three months.

The trial follows the market’s first Food and Music Festival on July 21, which was hailed as a great success.

Current and additional stallholders, plus a pop-up lunch offered by Michelin Guide-listed Peterborough restaurant Prevost, offered food at the event including meals, Italian groceries, cheese, preserves, Belgian chocolate, mead and much more.

Markets and commercial trading officer Steve Woolley said: “Hundreds of both new and familiar faces came to the festival and enjoyed the food on offer. Many commented that they were surprised by the range and quality of the stalls that we have.

“Now we’d like to continue the success of the market by offering more traders the chance to take their own stall. Many entrepreneurs have started with market stalls and we’re hoping to unearth a few gems with some new and exciting ideas.”

Market organisers are also looking for submissions from local budding chefs and businesses for a special recipe book using ingredients from the market.
