60 seconds from a shopper could help train a future local Olympian!
Queensgate shopping centre is getting ready to celebrate a summer of sport in 2012 with an amazing event offering support to Peterborough Athletic Club.
Set to spark the sporty spirit, from July 28 to August 10, shoppers will be asked to get active for just one minute on either an exercise bike, Powerspin or Playstation Move to help raise money.
For every minute of activity completed Queensgate will donate 60p, with all of the money going to the athletic club. The extra funds will go towards improving its facilities for the future athletes of Peterborough, while inspiring a new generation of Olympic hopefuls.
If £400 is raised the club could train an additional coach, £1,000 could fund new equipment and £2,000 could ensure regular exercise sessions are held at 10 new schools.
The event is being hosted in association with Access Sport, a charity which gives children, particularly in disadvantaged areas, access to a wide range of quality local sport.
Everyone that takes part in Everyone’s A Winner will also be entered into a competition to win prizes including a family holiday for four to St Lucia. They will also receive a book of exclusive vouchers to use in Queensgate.
Hammerson, the owner and manager of Queensgate is hosting Everyone’s A Winner in nine of its shopping centres across the UK. Each centre will support a local sports club and it is hoped that £30,000 will be raised for grassroots sport.
Sam Eastwood, centre director at Queensgate, told ESP – “The Everyone’s a Winner event is a great way of encouraging shoppers in the centre to do their bit to support our local athletics club. We want to inspire young people to think about signing up to their local club and at the same time raise funds, so there is a positive legacy to support sporting talent of the future.”
Mark Hardie, CEO of Access Sport added – “We are really proud to be working with Queensgate on Everyone’s a Winner. This is a great opportunity to get more kids active while raising income and awareness for local sports clubs.”
Launched this summer as part of the Olympics legacy programme to encourage more sports participation, www.spogo.co.uk will help people find sport and fitness facilities, clubs and services online – as easily as finding a train ticket or hotel room.
Rachel Barber, Marketing Director of spogo told ESP – “We are delighted to be supporting Everyone’s a Winner. We hope that everyone watching the Games will be inspired to give sport a go, or perhaps try something that they used to play. We can’t all be Olympic athletes, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun playing sport and we are often better than we think.”
Colin Pettit, committee member of Peterborough Athletics Club added: “We are thrilled that Queensgate has chosen to offer us such support through its Everyone’s A Winner event.
“Obviously any additional support to the club is always welcome and means that we can plough additional funds into equipment that will help the regions top athletes of tomorrow achieve their best.”
The event will be taking place in North Square.
