TOUR SERIES ON ITS WAY

Halfords will be offering free cycle safety checks when the Halfords Tour Series cycle race rolls into Peterborough on Tuesday 15 June.

There will be a carnival atmosphere throughout the day with the city centre playing host to a festival of cycling‑based activities and exciting professional bike racing.

From 11am there will be displays and static bike competitions in Long Causeway.  From 2pm a range of other activities will build excitement leading to The Tour Series race featuring 50 international calibre riders in 10 teams beginning at 7pm.  The riders will compete for one hour plus five laps over a 1.1 kilometre city centre circuit.

The focus of activity in the promotional zone will see Tour Series sponsor Halfords provide free cycle safety checks worth £14.99 to members of the public who bring their bikes along on the day. Halfords mechanics will check and adjust the components if needed, making sure bikes are safe and comfortable to ride.

Mark Kosciecha, on site co-ordinator for Halfords, said: “The Halfords Tour Series really highlights the thrill of cycling. By offering our safety checks for free we hope more people will feel able to take to their bikes and enjoy cycling this summer and beyond.”

Following the success of the inaugural Tour Series in 2009, each round of the Halfords Tour Series will again be televised on ITV4 at 7pm the evening after each round, engaging audiences nationwide with Britain’s best Olympic sport.

Annette Joyce, Peterborough City Council’s head of city operations, said:  “Peterborough’s extensive network of on and off road cycle routes, including the Green Wheel, makes it an ideal host for the Halfords Tour Series.  The offer of a free cycle safety check is a further inducement for residents to leave their cars at home and cycle into the city centre for this exciting event.”
