SHAZIA MIRZA STARS IN IWD EVENTS

shaziamirza09posterOh yes, sisters are doing it for themselves in Peterborough this month as the city celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8 big style, stretching the celebrations out over ten days.

IWD is the global day connecting all women around the world and inspiring them to achieve their full potential and to celebrate the collective power of women past, present and future.

This year’s celebrations in Peterborough include sport, poetry, art, music, dance, literature and comedy. Headline acts performing during the week include Muslim comedienne Shazia Mirza at The Thomas Deacon Academy theatre on Saturday March 7, just call the Key Theatre on 207239 for tickets priced £7. Writer Jasvinder Sanghera, author of ‘Shame’ and ‘Daughters of Shame’ is appearing at the John Clare Theatre on March 4 (tickets £3) and there’s a great value pampering evening at the South Grove Community Centre in Woodston on March 6. Tickets are just £2.50 and treatments including massage and mini facials start at £2 – bargain!

Celebrations begin on March 1 when local communities come together for an International Performing Arts Evening featuring international music, dance, song and story telling. On International Women’s Day (March 8) the celebrations end with a ‘women-only’ night out with music, Bollywood dance and an international buffet at The Fleet.
