The Ploughman in Werrington has been in battle with Tesco as they are set to be bulldozed as part of the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Werrington Centre.
Owner Andy Simmonds has previously raised concerns about plans to create a new pub at the centre, and organised a petition and demonstration which was held outside the Ploughman on Saturday to illustrate the strength of feeling among the locals about retaining this community focused pub.
Andy became landlord at the pub approximately 2 years ago and has raised almost £5,000 for good causes and won several awards – including being crowned pub of the year earlier this year by the Peterborough and District Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). He’s done amazing things during his time at the pub and has made it the heart of the community.
Local MP Stewart Jackson is backing the campaign all the way, and showed his support on Saturday during the demonstration, commenting that “It would be a shame to see it demolished, I’m fully supportive of the campaign”.
You too can help support this campaign by visiting www.savetheploughman.com and signing their online petition. Do your bit for the community!
