OPERA @ SHOWCASE

Showcase Peterborough to Present Wagner’s Epic Opera: ‘Tristan und Isolde’

On Tuesday March 15, Showcase Peterborough will present a rare opportunity to experience Wagner’s well-known epic opera ‘Tristan und Isolde’ at 7pm.

Recorded live at the spiritual home of Wagner’s work, Bayreuth, Cristoph Marthaler’s landmark production which opened the 2009 Bayreuth festival, brings together the rich talent of American Tenor Robert Dean Smith with that of Swedish soprano Irene Theorin.

‘Tristan und Isolde’ was first performed in 1865 and provided inspiration to many composers including Mahler, Strauss, Szymanowski and Berg. It is widely acknowledged as one of the peaks of the operatic repertoire, and has been performed regularly since its premiere. The renowned Wagner conductor, Peter Schneider, conducts the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and Chorus in a truly not-to-be-missed, captivating performance.

The heart rending tale of passion, betrayal, unrequited love and tragedy is one of Wagner’s most intense and poignant works. The production screened by Showcase Peterborough on 15 March has been tipped to remain a collectors’ benchmark for years to come.
