OPERA DE PARIS @ SHOWCASE

On Monday February 7 at 6pm, Showcase Peterborough will present the first ever live broadcast from the prestigious Opera de Paris, as renowned opera Giulio Cesare is beamed live via satellite and in stunning high definition to the cinema screen.

Composed by Handel, the opera depicts the story of Julius Caesar and brings to life the bewitching and impetuous queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, in one of the most brilliant and ambitious operas about the charms of Marc Anthony and Caesar’s infamous mistress.

The score contains some of Handel’s most precious jewels, including the seductive and lamenting arias of Cleopatra and stars one of the most adored sopranos, Natalie Dessay as she takes to the role for the first time.

The piece is innovatively directed by the acclaimed Laurent Pelly and composed by melodic genius Emmanuelle Haim.

As part of Showcase Peterborough’s 2011 Live Opera season, Giulio Cesare promises guests a unique opportunity to have the best seat in the house for this highly sought-after performance, without having to make the trip abroad.

Guests will become part of this very special event as the first ever live broadcast makes its way from the Opera de Paris to Peterborough.
