OAKHAM ALES IS A WINTER WINNER

oakham-ales-0291The guys at Oakham Ales have been celebrating more success and threw a big party at the Brewery Tap.

CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, officially presented the Oakham Brewery with the ‘Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain’ award, which was won at the National Winter Ales Festival back in January when the brewery’s ‘Attila’, was crowned champion.

Of course ESP was there to sup a few pints… errr, report on it! Here you can see head honcho of Oakham Ales Paul Hook (far right) accepting the award which joins their many, many others adorning the walls of The Tap in Westgate.

‘Attila’ packs a punch at 7.5% ABV and is described by the brewer as having ‘fruity notes and an elderflower aroma, with the taste of ripe red berries and citrus fruit and a long bitter fruity finish.’

Graham Donning, Festival Organiser, said it’s a worthy winner - “This is a spectacular beer with a great following, and a deserved winner. There are few barley wines remaining in this country, and Attila is a wonderful example for anyone who is yet to try this rare beer style.”

John Bryan, Head Brewer of Oakham Brewery (pictured far left), was of course, well chuffed!

“It’s a great start to what might turn out to be an otherwise gloomy year. Each batch takes around 5-6 months, and this award shows it’s time well-spent.”

So, try a pint or two… but make sure you’re not driving home!
