FOOD REVIEW

Having heard there was a new Indian restaurant at Thorpe Lodge Hotel in Peterborough, my colleague and I were keen to try it out.

The chef at Monsoon Tandoori produces some fantastic authentic Indian cuisine, using all the traditional methods that he learned back home in the Punjab villages.

We were very impressed when given the option of choosing just how spicy we’d like our food, and both of us chose just a sprinkling of chilli! All the food’s freshly made to order and you’ll find absolutely no preservatives or pre-cooked meat here. It’s all sourced locally, and any special requirements will be catered for – all you have to do is ask.

The chef is known to mix his unique traditional methods with modern methods while keeping the food authentic, fresh and tasty. The aroma from the food as it was cooking was mouth-watering.

Soon the food came out – first a delicious salad, accompanied by a fresh cucumber and mint sauce, then several hot-out-of-the oven naan breads, and a huge dish full of an incredible looking chicken balti. Need we say more – it was delicious!

The food tasted very fresh and there were bursts of flavour from all the different herbs and spices. The chicken was tender with plenty to go round. The lamb and chicken kebabs oozed flavour, and were chargrilled over the special Tandoori charcoal grill and there was plenty of sauce to be mopped up by the naan bread.

The restaurant has a romantic candle lit feel in the evenings but if you can’t make a  relaxing night of it you can order a takeaway – just give them a call and they’ll have it ready for you, or they’ll deliver to your door for free. There’s plenty to choose from on the menu but we can recommend the balti and lamb dishes!
