NEW EMBE RESTAURANT WORTH A TRY

embe-012If you fancy a change from pizza and past or oriental dishes, head down Thorpe Road to Embe and try the flavours of the Caribbean!

Embe is situated in the Thorpe Lodge Hotel just past the hospital on the left. Don’t be put off by the ‘hotel’ feel of the room, get your head past that and the food is superb. We tried Gambas and mushrooms finished off with cashews for starters, whch was absolutely stunning and plantain ring stuffed with beef and coriander – just spicy enough to be able to make out the wonderful flavours.

For mains we tried Jack fish which is more like meat than fish in texture but still a definite fish taste. It was accompanied by a very light vegetable rice and crisp salad, perfect. The chicken in creamy lentil sauce with cassava chips (a bit like a giant parsnip and sweet potato)  was succulent and the sauce not too over powering.

Embe also do the Caribean favourite ‘Ackee’ and salt fish and if you are a veggie then it’s fish or vegetable dishes. Lunch is served with nothing over £7 and our meal cost about £15 a head which, with a couple of beers is good value. One point worth noting the service is friendly but not quick, don’t expect to nip in for a 40 min food scoff, everything is cooked fresh so be prepared to wait.
