IT’S FESTIVAL TIME!

The Peterborough Festival launches this weekend June 25-26 with a fantastic Heritage Weekend in Cathedral Square.

This year Vivacity, the city’s new culture and leisure trust leads the way and they’ve made a few changes.

For the first time the Heritage Weekend will launch the Festival and instead and the festivities in Central Park and the Mayor’s Parade will provide the finale on the weekend of July 9-10.

Chief Executive of Vivacity, Kevin Tighe told ESP– “We’ve worked extremely hard this year to try and get something for everyone with the emphasis on quality and reaching out to the whole community to really bring art to the people.”

THE HERITAGE WEEKEND – Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26

Cathedral Square and the Cathedral precincts will come alive with a feast of living history events.

Over 300 costumed re-enactors from some of the best history groups will bring the Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Medieval knights, Roundheads and Napoleonic redcoats to life right in the heart of Peterborough.

There’ll be encampments, live battles, archery, falconry, period music, a local history fair, spectacular battle and arena displays and much, much more – all right in the heart of the city centre and FREE!

Stuart Orme, Vivacity’s Interpretation Manager, told ESP – “We’re well and truly ready to go with the Heritage Festival, and are looking forward to bringing 2000 years of our city’s incredible story to life in one weekend!  There’s something for all the family, and the chance for audience participation in many of the arena events, as well as loads to do for all the family in the rest of the displays.”

The 2011 Festival continues after the Heritage Weekend, with Festival Plus, which takes place daily from June 27–  July 8, bringing dance, film, literature, theatre and more to venues across Peterborough.
