GET STRAUSSED!

Feel the need for  a little romance and culture? Try the Vienesse Strauss Gala at the Key Theatre on January 25.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s prodigy Catrin Aur will be performing alongside soloists from major opera companies in this show which re-creates the nostalgia and romance of the grand ballrooms of 19th century Vienna.

You’ll be introduced to a bygone age of glamorous soiree’s and Strauss waltzes and the show features highlights from some of the great operettas of Strauss, Kalman and Lehar: including Die Fleidermaus, The Merry Widow, A Night in Venice and many more.

Catrin has won several competitions including the Young Welsh Singer of the Year in 2009.  She’s represented the UK in the final rounds of the Montreal International Singing Competition and was this year’s runner up in BBC Radio 2’s Kiri Award and she’s performed in all the major operas including La Traviata, Madam Butterfly and The Merry Widow.

Joining Catrin is British Tenor Stephen John Davis.  For D’Oyly Carte Opera Company he performed leading roles in HMS Pinafore and Pirates of Penzance. Stephen’s also performed in principal roles in London’s West End in The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as Les Miserables.

Performing alongside Catrin and Stephen are Peter Wilman and Australian Helen Sherman.  Peter is experienced with the English Chamber Opera in various principal roles in Don Giovanni for the English Chamber Opera and also Dolfin for the Welsh National Opera. These extremely talented lead singers are complimented by the European Orchestral Ensemble.

This beautifully crafted production is cleverly choreographed, tastefully costumed and magnificently sung, and gives the audience an authentic feel of a nostalgic Viennese evening, appealing to the romantic as much as the music aficionado and has already received rave reviews all over the country.

It’s a romantic Viennese experience so don’t get stressed – get straussed!
