Peterborough will be one of only four locations to host the inaugural Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix Series as part of the Halfords Tour Series event on Tuesday May 31.
This is the third year running that Peterborough city centre has hosted the Halfords Tour Series cycle race, and of the eight venues hosting this year’s events, the city is one of just four to host the new women’s challenge.
Annette Joyce, Peterborough City Council’s head of commercial operations, said – “Being chosen to host the inaugural women’s race demonstrates how impressed the organisers of the Halfords Tour Series have been by Peterborough over the past two years.
“Hosting the Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix adds to the excitement and anticipation around the Halfords Tour Series in Peterborough, and I am sure it will attract more people into the city centre for the event. Being the first of the four cities to host the women’s race will bring further focus to Peterborough and give us a great chance to showcase what the city has to offer.”
The Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix starts at 5pm, before the main Halfords Tour Series race at 7pm.
An afternoon of community events will whet the audience’s appetite for the professional races, starting with a time trial for local cycling clubs at 1.30pm. This will be followed by a ‘Business Grand Prix’ KMX kart race at 2.30pm and Peterborough Free Ride, which is open to everyone, from 4pm.
