AUTHOR JOHN BOYNE IN THE BORO

Anyone who enjoyed the The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas either as a film or book, can meet the writer at Peterborough Central Library.
John Boyne will be talking about his new novel The Absolutist, and about life as an author.

This event takes place on Thursday May 19, at 1pm, at Peterborough Central Library. Tickets are £3 (or £2 concessions) and are available from Central Library (please call 01733 864280) and Waterstones on Bridge Street.

The Absolutist is a novel about the First World War from the perspective of two young soldiers – a story of emotions, friendship, and deep secrets.

After the War, 20 year-old Tristan takes a train to deliver some letters to the sister of Will, the man he fought alongside.

In 1917, Will laid down his guns on the battlefield, declared himself a conscientious objector and was shot as a traitor.

The letters are not the real reason for Tristan’s visit. He holds a secret deep in his soul. One that he’s desperate to unburden himself of to Marian, if he can only find the courage.

John Boyne was born in Ireland in 1971 and is the author of seven novels. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was made into a successful film. Here’s your opportunity to meet the author who’ll be talking about The Absolutist, as well as signing copies of this novel.

Elaine Wilkinson, librarian at Vivacity, said -  “The new novel is all about the complexity of emotions and motives during the First World War. John’s talk promises to be fascinating with a real insight into the minds of the young soldiers at the time.”
